The Annual MVRC Desert trip will be April 10-14 to Pahrump NV to visit the Shoshone - Tecopa area south of Death Valley Junction, based on that section of Bill Mann's "Guide to 50 Interesting and Mysterious Sites in the Mojave", Volume 2. There are 22 destinations in that area in the book. They are on pg 43, 55, or 56 of the DeLorme Southern California Atlas.

| Camping and Motels -
Reservations were initially made for six RVs at Terrible's Lakeside Casino & RV Resort, 5870 Homestead Rd., Pahrump NV, April 10-13, leaving there on the 14th. The six are: KE6AFB, WA6ESA, K6HS, W6QAC, W6TEE, and WB6ZII. An additional reservation was made later by KD6JDF. 48 hour notice is required to cancel with no charge. If we arrive after the office closes at 5 PM, there will be no trouble checking in because there is 24 hour coverage at the casino. You may call for additional reservations, saying you want to be close to the block that is in my name. The number is 1-888-558-5253. Call before 5 PM. Let us know if you are going to do this, in case someone else is thinking of canceling. W6MAR is staying at a motel. WA6CNE and WB6PHQ will arrive at camp Friday night from So. California business trips and be at the WA6ESA/WA6CNE trailer. Homestead Road intersects Hwy 160 at the south end of town. Go to your right coming from the center of town, or left coming from Las Vegas. Go 3.9 miles south to Terrible's Lakeside. There is another Terrible's Casino in town without camping. There is a map posted at http://www.mvrc.org/images/pahapril.jpg. It may not be exact about the cross-street, but it will get you in the vicinity. Terrible's has been the destination for the Sam's Radio Hams and some of Vern and Trish's RV clubs from Lake Havasu. There are photos from one trip to Terrible's on Vern's web site http://www.citlink.net/~w3dly that don't look anything like desert! Vern, W3DLY, said: "We stay at Terrible's Lakeside Casino, it's maybe 4 or 5 miles from downtown. It's really a beautiful park and we enjoy it... The food is good and also very inexpensive... They charge $14.95 (a site) Monday thru Thursday and $19.95 for the weekend. Groups of ten or more receive a 15% discount."
| Caravanning and Frequencies -
Meet at Lyon's at 99 and Elk Grove Blvd for an 8 AM departure on April 10. An hour earlier if you want breakfast! From there we will drive to I-5. We plan on making lunch at some rest stop. Those meeting at Lyon's or on the road will be: KE6AFB, WA6ESA, K6HS, KD6JDF, W6MAR, and W6TEE. WB6ZII is leaving home a few days early, and W6QAC will be coming from an event at Goffs. Pahrump is a shorter drive from Sacramento than Needles, a frequent first night destination on these trips. We will use the 147.00 MVRC repeater (alternate is MVRC 440) before being in simplex range, and 147.555 simplex for caravanning. HTs are suggested for caravan stops and day trips. Bring your AC chargers. There is a table of frequencies at http://www.mvrc.org/freq0204.htm, intended only if we need them. W6MAR and I will be on APRS and 1.2 GHz., and I will have 222 MHz. handheld. I will have HF SSB, but I have made no skeds. I will send occasional PocketMail messages from the campout to the Mobileer mailing list.
| Books and Maps -
If anyone wants to order (not a requirement) "Bill Mann's Guide to 50 Interesting and Mysterious Sites in the Mojave, Volume 2", send a check for $23 to Shortfuse Publishing Co, 30 Hilltop Terrace, Barstow CA 92311. To buy online with a credit card go to: http://www.wemweb.com/shortfuse or call 760-256-8317 or 2520. Specify Volume 2. Order early to be sure it is here on time. We will have enough copies if you don't order one. If you have the DeLorme Southern California map book, bring it. Bill Mann gives Delorme map coordinates to help find locations. AAA members may want to pick up one or more of the following maps: Las Vegas Vicinity Guide Map - The area map on this one adequately covers where we will be taking our day trips, and as far south as Baker. It also has coarse street maps of Las Vegas. Southern Nevada and Death Valley Area - This has exactly the same area map except it also shows our route from Bakersfield to Pahrump. San Bernardino County - The detail found in Auto Club of Southern California maps, but goes no further north than Tecopa. There are 7 sites we may visit on this map. Guide to Death Valley National Park - Same detail but goes no further east than Shoshone. It does cover some more of the sites we will visit.
| Supplies -
Groceries are available at the RV park, but there is an Albertson's and a Smith's (same as Kroger, Ralphs, others) in town.
| Notice -
Every MVRC member and everyone on the Mobileer mailing list is invited, but only with the understanding that any trips are taken as friends and equals and no responsibility or liability is assumed by anyone.

April 6-7 - Friends of the Mojave Road, Spring Encampment, Goffs April 10-14 - This trip April 16-18 - Campout, Sam's Radio Hams, Lake McClure, SE of Modesto. WB6BRU, the host, is the Condor (222 MHz.) repeater trustee for Fresno. The timing is right for stopping on the way back from the desert trip. This is a good campground. Signups are due April 1.
